Liverpool breakout star gives contract update

Rio Ngumoha insists he is not worried about talks over a new Liverpool deal.

Ngumoha penned his first professional contract in September 2025, shortly after turning 17, which safeguarded his future at Anfield until at least summer 2028.

The prodigious winger has since become a full England international after being handed a senior debut during the pre-World Cup friendly with New Zealand in June.

He went on to feature for the Three Lions again last month, becoming their third-youngest competitive debutant in the Nations League win over the Czech Republic.

Ngumoha was expected to sign an improved longer-term deal with the Reds when he turned 18 in August to reflect his continued rise but talks are yet to conclude.

However speaking after Saturday’s comeback win at Brentford, the former Chelsea academy prospect downplayed the current delay in wrapping up his new contract.

“To be fair, that is all with my agent now,” insisted Ngumoha.

“I think it is all going well. I am not too sure. I just let the football do the talking at the end of the day.

“So I enjoy playing and all of that stuff about contracts is in the back of my mind really.

“I just play for the club, play for Liverpool and hopefully I can carry on doing well.

“My season is going well. I’m playing off the left and the right; I’m improving, working hard and it’s been good.

“Do I have a favourite position? No, not anymore to be fair.

“I think I’m getting to grips with the right wing now and I’m liking it, it has given me another asset, so that is good.

“I think because I’m still young, the club are just trying to look after me but we also have some of the best attackers in the world, so competing for places is not easy.

“So it’s all about healthy competition and we all just want to make the team win at the end of the day.

“Whatever minutes we get, we can’t be sulking, we just have to go out and show what we can do.”
