Liverpool have sounded out Lee Dykes as their potential new sporting director.
Dykes is in the running to succeed Richard Hughes with the Brentford technical director’s transfer record understood to be a key selling point for his candidacy.
The 42-year-old is credited with the Premier League mainstays’ astute recruitment policy which includes ex-Reds players Caoimhin Kelleher and Sepp van den Berg.
Brentford’s sporting director Phil Giles is also in contention to fill the void left by Hughes’ departure for a role with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal earlier this month.
However his appointment is likely to prove problematic as Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon leads the process for Anfield’s leading sporting position.
Several in-house options are also currently under consideration to become new sporting director with Julian Ward a contender to return to his former position.
Ward held the post in the 2022/23 season after Michael Edwards’ departure before returning under his former superior as part of FSG’s wider football operations.
Assistant sporting director David Woodfine alongside Pedro Marques and Matt Newberry, who are both working under the owners’ structure, are also in contention.
