Everton lose PSR legal dispute to former rival

Everton have lost a legal claim over breaching Premier League financial rules.

Two separate point deductions were imposed on the club in the 2023/24 season for overspend incurred during successive top flight campaigns.

Several of the Blues’ rivals were invited to take legal action by the Premier League due to an inferrence that the breaches helped them avoid relegation.

Burnley were the sole club to pursue litigation following their demotion to The Championship after Frank Lampard’s side manage to pull clear of the drop.

Both parties argued their case before a private hearing last year which legal publication The Lawyer claim subsequently found in the Clarets’ favour.

Everton are said to have been ordered to pay in the region of £40 million in compensation to their Turf Moor counterparts but are expected to appeal.
