Everton’s James Garner has received his first senior England call-up.

Garner’s efforts for David Moyes’ side this season were finally rewarded at international level in Thomas Tuchel’s latest squad announced on Friday.

The midfielder joins Jordan Pickford and former Blues’ teammate Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the Three Lions’ 35-man squad for the friendlies with Uruguay and Japan.

Garner, who signed a new long-term deal at Hill Dickinson Stadium in January, has represented his country at all levels and was part of the Euro U21s-winning side in 2023.

“I’m thrilled for Jimmy,” said Moyes.

“He’s played well enough to be selected, absolutely. He’s been very good all season.

“I think he’s just matured a lot more and gained a lot more confidence. I don’t think it was ever in doubt, he was always a good player.

“But I think to step up to the level required to be an international player, you have to really show good things.

“Probably more importantly for him, the level of competition to get into the central midfield position for England is so high.

“So great credit to him and [it’s] great for Everton Football Club as well.”
