New final Goodison derby date confirmed

A new date for the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park has been set.

Last month’s original clash between Everton and Liverpool was postponed at late notice on safety grounds after Storm Darragh swept in across the region.

The 245th meeting has now been provisionally rescheduled for Wednesday, February 12 with the 7.30pm set to be shown live in the UK on TNT Sports.

But that date remains subject to Arne Slot’s side avoiding the need to take part in the Champions League’s play-off rounds at the start of next month.

David Moyes will come up against his sixth different Reds manager in a first derby since his return to the Goodison was confirmed last weekend.

Slot reflected on the Scot’s arrival as Sean Dyche’s successor when asked ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup third round victory over Accrington Stanley.

He said: “With David Moyes coming in it’s always special because of what he did for Everton but I think in general for the game.

“He was also successful at West Ham where I think they won the Conference League with John Heitinga who is my assistant at the moment.

“It’s good to have him back but it’s always a pity that someone that in my opinion who did really well is out of a job now.”
