Everton schedule extra Goodison Park friendly

Everton will entertain Motherwell in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Goodison Park is set to host its final ever pre-season fixture against Roma next weekend, just seven days before the new Premier League’s start.

But Sean Dyche’s side will preface that outing in front of fans by taking on the Scottish Premiership outfit at the Grand Old Lady on August 6.

New signings Tim Iroegbunam, Jesper Lindstrom, Jake O’Brien and Iliman Ndiaye are all expected to be handed their first tastes of playing at Goodison.

The move mirrors a similar plan last summer, when the Blues played out a 2-2 draw with Serie A side Monza just days before taking on Sporting Lisbon.

Mothewell manager Stuart Kettlewell confirmed the planned fixture in the aftermath of his side’s goalless draw with Ross County on Saturday.

He said: “We’ve got a bounce game on Tuesday.

“We go down to play a closed door game against Everton at Goodison Park on Tuesday.

“So that overnight stay, playing against the top, top level side will be a brilliant test for us as well in their build up to the season starting.”

Everton, meanwhile, ran out 3-0 winners over Preston on Saturday with Lindstrom and O’Brien opening their accounts alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
