Virgil van Dijk insists he is ‘fine’ with Roy Keane’s criticism of him.
Keane accused the Liverpool captain of ‘arrogance’ after he claimed Sunday’s draw with Manchester United saw ‘only one team that was trying to win the game’.
The Old Trafford legend proceeded to tear into Jurgen Klopp’s side during Sky Sports’ post-match analysis after the hosts failed to score in 34 attempts.
But Van Dijk refuted Keane’s remarks while also admitting that it was the ex-Red Devils midfielder’s right to react to their hard-fought point on Merseyside.
He said: “I like Roy Keane [so] if he said that then it’s fine.
“He is Man United throughout and I understand he could react like that but I felt what I said and there is absolutely no arrogance in that.
“Everyone who watched the game probably felt the same. We move on. We had the opportunity and we couldn’t score.
“That’s the frustrating part.”
The defender also believes Liverpool’s failure to punish United despite an abundance of chances will serve as a learning curve for the rest of the season.
“You push, you push, you push and try to do everything in your power but it was one of those days we couldn’t find the right decision to score a goal,” added Van Dijk.
“We move on and have to learn from a lot of moments – and we will – and focus on Wednesday (against West Ham).
“You do overlaps, you try to cross the ball and at times – I won’t say every time – we forced it too much and find a solution which wasn’t there but that’s football.
“It didn’t work out the way we wanted but had opportunities and unfortunately couldn’t score.”
