Liverpool have condemned an attack on Manchester United’s team coach.
Erik ten Hag’s side were pelted with a number of objects during the final leg of their journey ahead of Sunday’s Premier League encounter at Anfield.
A window on the upper deck of the bus was damaged during the incident with footage on social media appearing to show a bottle as the item of impact.
The Reds were quick to criticise those responsible for the vandalism and vowed to take affirmative action against anyone found guilty from the act.
A club statement read: “Liverpool Football Club utterly condemns the actions that led to damage being caused to the Manchester United team bus during its arrival at Anfield this afternoon.
“We are aware of footage of the incident circulating online and are working with Merseyside Police, to fully investigate and identify those responsible.
“Any individuals found guilty of this reprehensible behaviour will also face the full force of the Club’s sanction process.”
The incident marked the fourth time an opposing team has been pelted when arriving at Anfield with Manchester City and Real Madrid previously targeted.
United’s local rivals suffered significant damage shortly before their 2018 Champions League quarter final and again prior to last season’s meeting.
Madrid, meanwhile, saw a window smashed during their pre-match arrival for another European tie in April 2021, when games were behind closed doors.
