Liverpool have been charged by the Football Association over their conduct in last weekend’s defeat to Manchester City.
The 4-1 defeat for Jurgen Klopp’s side at the Etihad Stadium saw them lose further ground in the battle to claim a Champions League qualification spot.
But the Reds now face retrospective disciplinary action from English football’s governing body for their players’ reactions during a first-half flashpoint.
Diogo Jota, Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate were among those involved after referee Simon Hooper refused to show a second yellow card to Rodri.
The City midfielder had already been cautioned during the first half but avoided further punishment for a foul on Cody Gakpo in the 34th minute.
“Liverpool FC has been charged after its players surrounded a match official during the 34th minute of their Premier League game against Manchester CIty FC on Saturday, April 1,” confirmed an FA statement.
“It’s alleged that Liverpool FC failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or do not behave in a way which is improper, and the club has until Wednesday 12 April to respond.”
