Roberto Firmino is ‘not close’ to making an expected return for Liverpool.

Firmino has been sidelined since picking up an injury during the World Cup break but was scheduled to return in time for this month’s trip to Brentford.

However the Brazil international is now set to miss Saturday’s encounter with Brighton & Hove Albion as part of the Reds’ growing attacking casualty list.

And Jurgen Klopp has refused to place a time frame on when Firmino will be back in action for the Reds due to complications with his injury recovery.

He said: “In the first moment it was like a little injury, estimated 10 days – two weeks.

“He did the normal rehab stuff, all the experts told us what we could do.

“Then Bobby felt again, something. That kept him out for longer.

“I don’t know exactly when he will be back, he’s not close to team training.”

Liverpool travel to the Amex Stadium with Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo as their only available forwards with Darwin Nunez also set to miss out.

Klopp will allow the Uruguayan a chance to put himself in contention if he is able to participate in team training on the eve of the clash with the Seagulls.

He added: “If he can not train today then yes, that will rule him out.

“We are waiting for information. It’s not a major one but it still kept him out of training. We have to wait for that.”
