Dwight McNeil closing in on Everton transfer

Everton are set to complete the signing of Burnley winger Dwight McNeil.

McNeil originally emerged as a target for the Goodison Park club last summer during the early weeks of Rafael Benitez’s short-lived spell at the helm.

At that time, the former England under-21 international’s price tag was seen as barrier with the Clarets understood to have set his valuation at £25 million.

But following their relegation from the Premier League, McNeil is now set to join the Blues in a deal worth in the region of £20m, including future add-ons.

Frank Lampard has identified the 22-year-old as a useful addition to fill the void left by Richarlison’s departure to Tottenham at the beginning of July.

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany conceded on Wednesday that McNeil’s departure from The Championship newcomers could now be on the cards.

He said: “There have been a lot of conversations behind the scenes.

“These happen on a club-to-club level.

“We will have to see how it develops in the next few days.”

McNeil is set to join former Turf Moor stalwart James Tarkowski in trading the former top-flight mainstays for the blue half of Merseyside this summer.

Tarkowski moved to Lampard’s side on a free transfer while Sporting Lisbon full-back Ruben Vinagre sealed a season-long loan switch on Wednesday.
