Klopp pays tribute to ‘perfect’ Minamino

Jurgen Klopp has hailed Takumi Minamino after his Liverpool departure.

Minamino’s two-and-a-half year stay at Anfield was brought to an end on Tuesday when he joined Monaco in a deal worth around £14.5 million.

The Japan international had been a peripheral figure in the Reds’ line-up, making just one Premier League start during the previous campaign.

But Minamino still made a number of vital contributions including topping the club’s goal scoring charts in both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup last term.

And Klopp paid tribute to the outgoing 27-year-old’s impact on a Liverpool side which completed a domestic set during his time with the club.

He said: “It’s hard to see Taki go, but it’s a great move for him and one he thoroughly deserves.

“An amazing professional; super, talented player. As a person, he is full of warmth and makes everyone feel positive. A manager’s dream, to be honest.

“I’m sure there will be those who think it didn’t quite work out. Those who think this are wrong. I don’t accept that.

“His contribution far outweighs the opportunities we were able to give, in terms of starting matches.

“He made us better each and every day he was with us – not just in the games he played in but every single session in training.

“Perfect attitude, winner’s mentality.”
