Everton closing in on first summer signing

Everton are set to make James Tarkowski their first summer signing.

Frank Lampard has identified Tarkowski as his preferred target to reshape his side’s defence after they narrowly avoided Premier League relegation.

The 29-year-old will become a free agent at the end of this month following a six-year spell with Burnley which culminated in losing their top-flight status.

Newcastle United and West Ham both joined the race to sign Tarkowski but the player is understood to be leaning towards a move to Goodison Park.

Lampard will reportedly follow up the one-time England international’s capture by aiming to further strengthen the Blues’ ranks with more ambitious targets.

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has emerged as a viable option with Fabian Delph expected to leave Everton later this summer when his contract expires.

According to the Telegraph, Lampard is also eyeing two of his former Chelsea players in Billy Gilmour and Conor Gallagher to improve attacking outlets.

Any deals, however, are dependent on Everton’s ability to meet the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability rules as well as potential player sales.
