Lampard open to director of football link

Frank Lampard is open to working with a director of football at Everton.

Lampard was appointed last month with the Goodison Park club in a state of flux due to Marcel Brands’ departure in December amid a conflict of ideas.

Ex-Tottenham recruitment chief Steve Hitchen recently emerged as the lead candidate to succeed the Dutchman amid the Blues’ ongoing strategic review.

And Lampard, whose side face Southampton on Saturday, did not discount the possibility of operating in tandem with Brands’ potential replacement.

He said: “I think it’s been quite open, before I even turned up at the club, that the club is doing a strategic review of that as such across the board.

“My feeling is of course I would like an input into that. I think it’s my role to a degree but my first role at this club is to get us winning football games.

“The amount that consumes you in my job, it’s been so important for me in these first two or three weeks, to put my head completely on that working with the squad.

“I think we’ll see going forward. I would have an opinion on it. Working with a director of football of course, many clubs do.

“The key for me is the communication and the fact that everything is aligned and you work in the same direction.

“I think if you can get that mix, great, then I think it would be a really positive force for the club.

“That’s where we’re at in this process. The club will make their decisions on that. When they ask for me input, I will most certainly give it.”
