Everton targeting hat-trick of winger deals

Everton have set their sights on signing a hat-trick of wingers this summer.

Veteran Premier League goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is expected to become the first signing of Rafael Benitez’s tenure on a free transfer from Bournemouth.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international, 34, will sign a two-year deal as part of plans to provide cover and competition to Blues’ no.1 Jordan Pickford.

Benitez has already turned his attention to outfield options and made Burnley’s Dwight McNeil one of three wide players with top-flight experience.

McNeil caught the Goodison Park outfit’s eye when he scored a sumptuous long-range effort to open the scoring for the Clarets in March’s 2-0 win.

But Everton will face competition from Aston Villa in the hunt for the 21-year-old, who currently is valued in the region of £25 million by Sean Dyche’s side.

Former Liverpool manager Benitez is set to add former Crystal Palace forward Andros Townsend to his ranks after he became a free agent this summer.

Also on the Spaniard’s liste is Demarai Gray barely six months since he joined Bayer Leverkusen for £2 million after falling out of favour at Leicester City.
