Jordan Pickford has revealed what Rafael Benitez told him after becoming Everton manager.
Benitez was confirmed as Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement on Wednesday and will meet his new charges next week when they report back for pre-season.
Pickford and teammate Dominic Calvert-Lewin are set to return to Finch Farm at a later date, following the conclusion of England’s Euro 2020 campaign.
But the Blues’ goalkeeper admitted on Thursday that he has already been in contact with Benitez, who called him just hours after being officially unveiled.
“You have seen his career,” said Pickford.
“The amount of trophies he has won, his desire to win matches every time.
“He rang me last night. It was good to speak to him.
“He said, ‘Enjoy the tournament, do well for England and I’ll see you when you get back’.”
