Loris Karius has become Liverpool’s latest summer signing after securing a £4.7 million switch.
Karius, who will wear the Reds no.1 jersey, completed his move from Mainz to Anfield earlier today after undergoing a medical at the club’s Melwood training ground and agreeing a five-year deal.
The Manchester City academy graduate will become the third arrival of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds reign, following in the footsteps of Schalke defender Joel Matip and Red Star Belgrade midfielder Marko Grujic, on July 1.
Karius’ former Bundesliga peers recently voted him the second-best goalkeeper in Germany’s top flight, behind Bayern Munich stopper Manuel Neuer, after he kept nine clean sheets and conceded a combined 42 goals in 34 games for Mainz.
“I am delighted we have signed Loris, he has had a fantastic season with Mainz and has developed into a very good goalkeeper since his return to Germany,” Klopp told Liverpool FC.
“I am really pleased that we were able to move so quickly to get him and that Loris has shown such a desire to come to Liverpool with a lot of other clubs interested in him.
“I know he will add to the quality we have in this position and I look forward to working with him and all our players when we return for pre-season.”
