Everton set for US pre-season tournament

Everton will head to the United States as part of their pre-season schedule.

Barely 24 hours on from the shock departure of Carlo Ancelotti, the Blues confirmed their involvement in the 2021 Florida Cup at the end of July.

Premier League counterparts Arsenal, Serie A champions Inter MIlan and Colombian side Millonarios will also take part in the four-team tournament.

Held at Orlando’s 65,000-capacity Camping World Stadium, Everton have been drawn against Millonarios in the semi-final stage on Sunday, July 25.

The winner of the tie will face whoever progresses from the clash between Inter and Arsenal on the same day, with both offering potential reunions.

Former Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta is currently in charge at the Emirates Stadium while striker Romelu Lukaku now lines up for the Italian giants.

Goodison Park chiefs are continuing to work closely with organisers and the US authorities to ensure their participation is safe under Covid-19 protocols.

Separately, the club is planning to host a series of engagement events with its fans based Stateside as well as supporters’ clubs during their latest visit.

Everton last travelled to the US in 2013 to participate in the International Champions Cup during Roberto Martinez’s first weeks at the helm.
