Lucas Digne in line for new Everton deal

Everton are preparing to hand Lucas Digne a new long-term contract.

The France international is currently sidelined for up to three months after suffering an ankle ligament injury during a training session in late November.

But the Blues will attempt to safeguard Digne’s future with his current deal set to have just over two years remaining at the end of this season.

According to The Times, Goodison Park officials have planned to hold discussions with the left-back and his representatives about a fresh extension.

Interest has grown in Digne following an impressive run where he has become one of the Premier League’s best players in his preferred position.

Prior to injury he was an ever-present for Everton this season and contributed four assists in the top flight for Carlo Ancelotti’s side during that spell.

Manchester City are have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old as they seek a more reliable left-back option than an injury-prone Benjamin Mendy.

Digne joined Everton from Barcelona in summer 2018 for £18 million and has made 87 appearances for the club in all competitions and scored five goals.
