Liverpool furlough non-playing staff members

Liverpool have furloughed some of its non-playing staff due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Anfield chiefs took the decision on Saturday to enforce temporary leave for employees due to the continuing spread of Covid-19 throughout the UK.

Staff will continue to receive 100 per cent of their salary with 80% of it covered by the government’s newly-formed job retention scheme.

The Reds have become the fifth Premier League club to furlough staff this week alongside Tottenham, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Norwich City.

“Even prior to the decision on staff furloughing, there was a collective commitment at senior levels of the club – on and off the pitch – with everyone working towards a solution that secures jobs for employees of the club during this unprecedented crisis,” explained a club statement.

“There is ongoing active engagement about the topic of salary deductions during the period matches are not being played to schedule. These discussions are complex and as a result the process is ongoing.”
