Everton chief admits Leicester game unlikely

Marcel Brands does expect Everton’s game with Leicester City to go ahead as planned.

The Premier League declared a three-week shutdown of games due to coronavirus outbreak, postponing Monday’s Merseyside derby with Liverpool.

An unnamed Blues player displayed potential symptoms of Covid-19, which saw all club facilities shut down on Friday before the league’s announcement.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are currently scheduled to return to on-field action on Monday, April 6 when Leicester will be travelling to Goodison Park.

But Everton director of football Brands admits that the prospect of facing the Foxes on next month’s original match date appears increasingly uncertain.

“Whether the league will be finished will affect TV funding,” he told FC Update.

“It will depend on what’s going to happen to the Europe and Champions League

“But I wonder if we can play football on April 6th. I don’t think that chance is that big.

“[Last] Friday morning someone had a fever among us, but fortunately it turns out that there was no infection.

“But we took no risk and decided to close the complex ourselves.”
