Everton pair embroiled in Anfield crowd row

Two Everton players became embroiled in a verbal spat after their FA Cup defeat to Liverpool.

Video footage in the wake of Sunday’s third round loss showed Seamus Coleman and Mason Holgate confronting fans near the Anfield tunnel.

Blues captain Coleman is heard shouting ‘what did you say?’ repeatedly to supporters of Jurgen Klopp’s side just moments after the final whistle.

A Liverpool steward and Everton’s goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly sought to lead the defenders away as they both remonstrated with the crowd.

Holgate had left the field after completing the full game for Carlo Ancelotti’s side while Coleman was replaced by Moise Kean late in the second half.

Everton have declined to comment on the matter.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, meanwhile, has attempted to justify the refusal of Everton players to acknowledge their travelling supporters following the 1-0 reversal.

Loanee Djibril Sidibe was the only first-team figure willing to approach the 7,900 fans housed in the Anfield Road Stand at the end of the game.

“I think everyone is totally disappointed. I think the players are all different people in how they deal with the loss. It’s one of those things,” said Sigurdsson.

“Of course usually more players go to the fans. It’s not the kind of thing for the team not to do and I am sure in the future there will be more players going towards them.”
