Liverpool sweating on Salah’s latest injury

Liverpool are waiting to learn the extent of Mohamed Salah’s latest ankle injury.

Salah suffered a relapse of the problem with his left ankle from a tackle by Fernandinho during his side’s 3-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday.

The Egyptian received treatment on the pitch mid-game and had an ice pack applied to it after being replaced by Joe Gomez late on in the Anfield clash.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had hoped to convince the 27-year-old to withdraw from international duty to undergo a scan to discover the severity of the knock.

But Salah instead reported for Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with Comoros and Kenya, meaning the Reds will face a delay on the prognosis.

Last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner originally picked up the injury from a challenge by Hamza Choudhury in last month’s win over Leicester City.

He spent the previous international break recovering but was still unable to recover in time for Liverpool’s goalless draw at Manchester United.
