Everton can ‘expect more’ from Walcott

Marco Silva says Everton can ‘expect more’ stellar displays by Theo Walcott.

The former England international received a standing ovation and earned widespread plaudits during last weekend’s 2-0 win over West Ham United.

Walcott’s only other start for the Blues this season was short-lived due to suffering a concussion at the beginning of a defeat to Manchester City.

Silva, however, believes the ex-Arsenal forward, 30, is capable of maintaining the high standard shown against the Hammers on a more consistent basis.

He said: “The chances are there and the players have to be ready, not just to talk or not be happy.

“When you have the chance, you have to show your quality.

“Theo did that in his first [proper] start of the season and I was really pleased to see because he deserved it. He is a fantastic example in our dressing room.

“He started against City but unfortunately didn’t play more than two minutes.

“It’s possible that game was a very good chance for him because of the way we planned the game to explore the skills and qualities of Theo.

“But against West Ham he did that. i’m not saying if it was his best performance at Everton or not.

“I can compare this performance (last weekend) to how I saw Theo play last season against Burnley away because he did fantastic in that game as well.

“It’s something I mentioned to him this week and what I can tell you is to expect more games like that from him.

“He has the skills, profile and quality to do that [regularly].”
