Deacon Blue sell out Aintree Racecourse

An Evening At The Races and Aintree Racecourse have today announced that Deacon Blue have sold out their show at the course on 13th May 2016.

Deacon Blue are one of Scotland’s most successful musical exports, pharm having sold over 6 million albums worldwide. Their impressive chart record includes twelve top 40 singles and eight top 20 albums, site which includes 1989’s ‘When The World Knows Your Name’ and 1994’s ‘Our Town’, both of which hit the #1 spot. Having originally formed in 1985, the band recently celebrated their landmark 30th year.

Speaking ahead of their date at Aintree Deacon Blue said: ‘We can’t wait to perform at Aintree Racecourse on 13^th May! To find out the show has sold out a month in advance has made us even more excited to share the evening with our North West fans after the races.’

This’ll be the first show we play this year. Well actually, we played at Hogmanay for New Year in Scotland so technically we played on the 1st January. We’ll be making a record hopefully in May so you never know; we might try a new song or something like that! There will be something new.”

Speaking of their memories of past North-West performances they said “We’ve had fantastic nights in both Liverpool and Manchester and Preston. We played all these places at numerous times and Liverpool particularly because you know in 1989 we played at The Royal Court just after the Hillsborough disaster and we’d lots of letters from people who had relatives at Sheffield, some people who had tickets to the show. At least a couple of them died or were injured and everyone in Liverpool knew someone or had an association with people and perhaps that was the most moving gig we ever done. Emotions within the room were highly charge People threw flowers on the stage and I think for us it gave us a strong connection with the city as well and I think that connection has been there now all these years.”
