Shots were fired at a Dingle house in an arson attack on the same address.
A ground floor window was found with damaged consistent with firearm discharge following the incident in Grafton Street after 11.30pm on Tuesday.
Police also found a discarded bottle of what is being described as ‘accelerant’.
The fire was put out by the house’s residents, who reported no injuries in the alleged attack, but scorch marks were still visible on the window frame.
Detectives believe that the offenders escaped the scene in a dark-coloured vehicle which was driven along Warwick Street.
House-to-house, forensic and CCTV enquiries have been carried out while officers will step up patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the community.
Detective Inspector Steve McGrath said: “An investigation into the full circumstances surrounding this incident is underway.
“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in and around Grafton Street shortly before or after the incident to contact us, as any information they have could be vital to our inquiries.
“Likewise if you saw any dark-coloured cars in the area at that time, or have any home CCTV or dashcam footage, let us know.
“I can assure you that all information will be acted upon.
“Thankfully nobody was injured but to use a firearm in the street is clearly incredibly reckless and we are determined to find those responsible and bring them to justice.
“We need communities to stand together to get these cowardly individuals off our streets and take firearms out of circulation.
“We have acted and will continue to act on all information about such incidents.
“But we need you to help us build up the evidence against these offenders who are prepared to put our communities at risk so that we can make the streets safer for you and your families.”
