Loaded guns found on Walton loop line

Two loaded guns have been recovered by police in Walton.

A blue Skoda Octavia car came to the attention of patrols at around 11.30pm on Friday before being found abandoned on Crescent Road.

Searches of the area was undertaken and two loaded handguns found in separate bags on the loop line nearby.

Specialist firearm officers attended to make the weapons safe and they have been seized for testing.

Detective Chief Inspector Craig Sumner said: “Merseyside Police is committed to tackling gun crime and this was a really good spot by officers.

“As a result of their thorough search of the area, another two firearms have been taken off the streets and out of the hands of criminals who could have used them to cause harm in our communities.

“We will continue to be relentlessly proactive in finding all dangerous weapons using all available tactics.

“People who attempt to hide firearms in open spaces should be aware that we are putting significant resources into tackling gun crime on a daily basis.

“Our recent recoveries demonstrate that we will act on any information received to bring weapons off the streets.

“Information from our communities is absolutely vital so anyone with information about those involved in gun crime, or who knows where weapons are being stored, please contact us so that we can make our streets safer.”
