Everton FC set Ross Barkley deadline for next week

Ross Barkley must make a decision on his Everton future by the end of next week.

The playmaker is yet to sign a new long-term contract with the Blues as he prepares to enter the final 12 months of his existing Goodison Park deal.

Ronald Koeman previously warned Barkley that he runs the risk of being sold without a reaffirmed commitment to the club before the end of this season.

And the Everton manager insists that the deadline on the England international will not be pushed back until the beginning of the new campaign in August.

He said: “I think if you need so much time, then you have doubts.

“There’s still one week [enough] time for him to decide.

“The board has been working a long time to ensure Ross stays for a longer period and it’s up to the player.

“But we don’t wait until August. Before next weekend we need an answer.

“We need a decision or we will sell the player.”
