Liverpool are yet to discover whether Sadio Mane’s injury picked up in the Merseyside derby is worse than first feared.
Mane sustained a knee problem early into the second half of last weekend’s 3-1 win over Everton after landing awkwardly from a challenge with Leighton Baines.
Jurgen Klopp admitted that the Senegalese winger was doubtful for the clash with Bournemouth but could now face a longer period without his top scorer.
Scans on Mane’s knee have proved inconclusive due to the level of swelling, which could see the Reds lose him for longer than originally anticipated.
With Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge already sidelined, the 24-year-old’s absence would represent a potentially damaging setback.
Klopp’s hopes of consolidating a top four finish rest on Liverpool’s remaining eight games of the current Premier League season with a difficult start to the run.
Wednesday’s visit of Eddie Howe’s side to Anfield is followed by successive trips on the road to Stoke City and West Brom on consecutive weekends.
Divock Origi, who scored against Everton, insists that he is ready to step up and fill the void left by Liverpool’s growing list of sidelined attacking options.
He said: “I’m ready. I always said that I’m ready to be an important player for the team.
“I really believe it. I’m not just an option for the future, I’m an option for now. I want to do everything to get in the team.
“The coach has several choices and that is only good for the team. The team is most important and we have to finish strong.
“I hope I can play a big part in the end of the season. I’m very ambitious and I believe in my qualities. Like I say, I’m ready and ready now to do whatever.
“But you have to put everything in and show it on the pitch.
“I always respect the decision of the coach and, for me, the most important thing is to stay cool in the head and enjoy the game every time, play a part and help the team.”
