Iniesta talks up Coutinho’s Barcelona link

Andres Iniesta insists he is unfazed by Philippe Coutinho’s prospective arrival at Barcelona.

The Liverpool playmaker has continually been touted for a move to the Nou Camp, with the Catalans expected to revive their interest in him next month.

Reports from Spain suggest that the Reds could be offered as much as £136 million in efforts to convince them to finally part with Coutinho.

Anfield chiefs rejected several offers from the La Liga leaders last summer despite the playmaker submitting a transfer request in efforts to force through a move.

Should he join Barca, Coutinho is expected to become Iniesta’s direct replacement with the midfielder’s time at the top appearing to draw to a close.

But Iniesta, 33, believes that the Brazil international would arrive to further strengthen the Spanish champions-elect’s options rather than as his successor.

He said: “I see him as a great associative player, with a lot of talent, who uses both feet, makes goals, combines very well and plays between the midfield and the forwards.

“He is a player with a profile quite like ours and would be a great signing if he finally arrives.

“I do not see him as my competition but as a boost for the club.”
