Liverpool will launch a final attempt to land Naby Keita this summer.
Successive offers for the midfielder have failed to find favour with RB Leipzig, with a £66 million bid rejected earlier this week.
But the Independent claim that Reds will aim to break the Bundesliga club’s resolve and secure Keita’s signature with an improved offer worth £75m overall.
The Guinea international would be available for a cut-price fee of £48m next summer due to a release clause which takes effect in 12 months time.
However Jurgen Klopp is eager to finalise a deal for Keita amid fears that other European clubs will pursue the player under the reduced terms.
Leipzig remain unwilling to deviate from their stance that no players are sellable, with founder and owner Dietrich Mateschitz insisting that money is not an issue.
Should Liverpool fail to sign Keita, it would represent a significant blow for Klopp after he was forced to publicly concede defeat in his efforts to land Virgil van Dijk.
Van Dijk could still secure a move to Anfield despite the club’s public withdrawal of interest in June after informing Southampton that he wishes to leave.
The defender was left out of the Saints’ pre-season trip to France as Mauricio Pellegrino confirmed that the player is ‘psychologically not 100 per cent’.
