Liverpool plan to promote Michael Edwards to become the club’s new sporting director.
Edwards has been at Anfield since his 2011 arrival from Tottenham and has impressed owners Fenway Sports Group in fulfilling a variety of roles during that time.
He has operated as head of performance and analysis, a director of technical performance and is currently the Reds’ technical director as well as forming part of the club’s team transfer committee.
The latter was often a source of friction with Jurgen Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers but the current Liverpool manager is understood to be happy with Edwards’ new role.
Edwards will oversee contract negotiations in his newly-created position which will entail talking to players and agents while Klopp will continue to have the final say on transfers.
