Liverpool have begun trimming their squad with Luis Alberto expected to be the first of many departures before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.
A £4.2 million fee has been agreed with Lazio for the midfielder, who spent the previous two season on loan after struggling to adapt to life on Merseyside.
Alberto enjoyed successive spells at Malaga and Deportivo La Coruna but neither side, nor former club Sevilla, were willing to sign him permanently.
Further exits are expected from Anfield in the coming days with Mario Balotelli in talks to join French outfit Nice while Lazar Markovic continues to attract interest.
Balotelli’s prospective departure is set to be the final act of a catastrophic Liverpool career in which he was offloaded to AC Milan last season.
The Italian has entered the final 12 months of his contract, allowing whichever club takes him the chance to secure him on a free transfer next summer.
Jurgen Klopp also hopes to seal a loan move for Mamadou Sakho but that appears unlikely after the France international rejected a switch to Stoke City.
