Christian Benteke closing in on Crystal Palace switch

Christian Benteke’s nightmare 12-month stay at Liverpool is nearing an end as Crystal Palace prepare to increase their offer for the out-of-favour striker.

The Eagles’ initial approach of £25 million was rejected by the Reds last week but are now set to return with an improved bid for the Belgium international.

That original figure has been upped to ensure that Liverpool will receive an initial down payment of £27 million for the sale of Benteke while a further £4.5 million in add-ons could see the deal rise to £31.5M.

That would see Liverpool recoup the majority of the original £32.5 million outlay for the former Aston Villa marksman, who has made no secret of his frustration of life at Anfield.

Benteke warned that he would consider his options elsewhere if he failed to feature regularly in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans.
