Outgoing Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has apologised for comments attributed to him on social media in which he verbally abused Jurgen Klopp.
Skrtel is on the verge of securing his Anfield exit with a £5.5 million move to Turkish side Fenerbahce but aimed a veiled dig at the Reds manager in an Instagram post.
During an exchange, the Slovakia international’s account appeared to endorse comments which branded Klopp a ‘d***head’ and responded to further replies with ‘hope he does [see it]’.
However Skrtel, 31, has attempted to clarify the remarks made in his name.
He said: “I am truly sorry for the situation and for what was written under my name.
“These days, when I am very busy I have asked my close friend to help me manage my social media profiles.
“He got taken away and he did not realise how serious the comments may appear.
“I would like to stress that the opinion he expressed is not my opinion.”
