Liverpool have been ordered to pay £8 million Burnley following the signing of Danny Ings, a tribunal has ruled.
Ings moved to Anfield last summer on a free transfer after his contract expired with the Championship club.
As an under-23 player, however, the Championship club were entitled to compensation for developing the player in the four years since his arrival from Bournemouth.
A ruling by both the Premier League and Professional Football Compensation Committee decided that Burnley should receive double the £4 million fee offered by the Reds following the England striker’s capture.
The figure, a British transfer record for tribunals, will see Liverpool pay an initial £6.5 million to the Clarets with a further £1.5 million in add-ons at a later stage.
Burnley will also receive 20 per cent of any future transfer fee received for Ings.
“We believe the process was conducted fairly and we respect the outcome, read a club statement.
“We are pleased for Danny Ings, in particular, that this chapter is now complete and he can look forward to a long and successful career at Liverpool.”
