Philippe Coutinho will miss Liverpool’s FA Cup clash with Everton.
Coutinho was absent from the Reds’ win over Burnley amid speculation that Barcelona are set to renew their interest in the playmaker.
But the Brazil international is also due to sit out Friday’s 230th Merseyside derby at Anfield with a thigh injury which has ended any hopes of his participation.
Barcelona have yet to return with an improved offer for Coutinho but he remains keen to secure a move to the Nou Camp in the January transfer window.
The Catalans saw three bids rejected by Liverpool, including one of £114 million, while the 25-year-old attempted to force through a move with a transfer request.
However Liverpool are now prepared to consider offers for Coutinho after he refused to pledge his long-term future to the club amid Barca’s ongoing interest.
But owners Fenway Sports Group would only facilitate the former Inter Milan player’s departure if it was given the approval of manager Jurgen Klopp.
