Liverpool FC reject second Barcelona bid for Coutinho

Liverpool have rejected Barcelona’s follow-up bid for Philippe Coutinho.

An initial £72 million approach for the Brazilian was turned down by Anfield officials last month before the Catalans returned earlier this week.

Barcelona remain confident of landing Coutinho and believed a £90.2m offer would tempt the Reds into parting with the playmaker.

But Liverpool remain unrelenting in their refusal to sell at any price despite the 25-year-old being keen on a move to the Nou Camp.

Future offers are set to be rejected in a similar manner as owners Fenway Sports Group backed Jurgen Klopp’s public insistence that Coutinho is not for sale.

Klopp informed the player on the club’s pre-season tour of Hong Kong that he would not be allowed to leave Merseyside this summer.

Coutinho is currently a doubt for Liverpool’s Premier League opener with Watford due to a back problem that ruled him out of last weekend’s friendly with Athletic Bilbao.

However he has been registered to play in the club’s squad for next week’s Champions League qualifier with Hoffenheim.
