Jurgen Klopp has questioned Neymar’s imminent move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Neymar is on the verge of a record-breaking switch to the former Ligue 1 champions as they prepare to meet Barcelona’s £198 million release clause.
The overall deal will see the Brazil talisman’s value spiral beyond that initial outlay with a five-year contract understood to be worth £200m also set to be factored in.
Barcelona are expected to use the profits from Neymar’s exit to fund a renewed pursuit of Philippe Coutinho despite Liverpool insisting that he is not for sale.
But Klopp is concerned at how PSG are able to facilitate the eye-watering transfer while simultaneously complying with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play legislation.
He said: “There are clubs that can pay fees like that; Man City and PSG. Everyone knows that.
“I thought [Financial] Fair Play was made so that situations like that can’t happen.
“That’s more of a suggestion than a real rule. I don’t understand that. I don’t know how it happens. That’s not the next step I hope.
“I think and hope it will stay an exception but we don’t know.”
