A medical at the club’s Melwood training ground in the next 24 hours as Jurgen Klopp looks to kick-start Liverpool’s summer spending on major signings.

Dominic Solanke will join on a free transfer when his deal with Chelsea expires on July 1 although the striker will feature more within in the under-23 setup.

Klopp’s pursuit of Salah arrives three years after he turned down a move to Merseyside in favour of a £12 million move to the Premier League champions.

That stint in the Italian capital led to a permanent move in summer 2016 as the 25-year-old enjoyed a stand-out campaign with 19 league goals last season.
