Roma fire Salah transfer warning to Liverpool FC

Roma have warned Liverpool they will not be bullied in selling Mohamed Salah.

Hopes of the Egypt international moving to Anfield remain very much alive despite a £28 million being rejected by the Serie A giants earlier this month.

Talks remain ongoing between the two clubs with Roma understood to be holding out for a deal closer to €40m (£35.2m) to allow Salah to leave.

The Reds will have to break their current transfer record to land the ex-Chelsea winger, who was photographed with the club’s shirt by fans on Egypt duty.

Monchi has confirmed that Salah is the subject of an offer from an English club, widely believed to be Liverpool’s continued pursuit of the 24-year-old.

But Roma’s sporting director insists that the terms of Salah’s potential departure will not be dictated by the will of the player’s potential suitors.

He said: “For Salah there is an offer from an English club but the price will be set by Roma, not the buyers.

“As I’ve said before, Roma is not a supermarket; Roma is a team that will represent Italy in Europe (in the Champions League).

“We came second in Serie A and our idea is to keep as good a team as possible. At the same time no club exists that does not sell players.”
