Everton FC to see transfer advances hijacked by Chelsea

Everton’s attempts to seal a deal with Axel Witsel have been hijacked by Chelsea.

Chelsea have made a late attempt to try and snatch Axel Witsel away fromEverton and are now considered favourites to sign the Belgian midfielder this summer, according to reports in the Mirror.

Witsel worked his way through the ranks at Standard Liege and made his name at Benfica before becoming part og a a big-money move to Zenit St Petersburg in 2012 where he’s helped the Russian team lift the Russia Premier League title and Russia Cup.

The 27-year-old is expected to be on the move again this summer with it becoming increasingly likely that he will be given the chance to better himself in the Premier League.

Everton are said to be desperately trying to use their newly-found wealth to strengthen their squad however, the newspaper suggests that with the Merseyside club still haggling over a deal has left the door open for Chelsea to try and hijack the move with Roman Abramovich now personally involved in getting a deal agreed with Zenit.

The Mirror claim that Chelsea’s interest is ‘concrete’ and suggests that Witsel is in favour of a move to London.
