Barcelona’s hopes of making a quick profit on Gerard Deulofeu have been dashed by Everton.
Deulofeu is currently on loan at AC Milan after failing to force his way into the Blues’ regular first-team plans under Ronald Koeman this season.
Milan could make the transfer permanent at the end of the current campaign should Deulofeu impress the Serie A giants between now and the end of June.
But reports in Spain claim that Barcelona are considering a reunion with their former player this summer with a view to making a quick profit on the winger.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca officials are planning to buy back Deulofeu an €8.5 million (£7.2m) and potentially offloading him for a higher valuation.
Everton, however, have ensured that the 22-year-old cannot be the subject of such a deal due to a clause in his switch to Goodison Park over 18 months ago.
Roberto Martinez revealed in late 2015 that Barcelona would have to pay €12 million (£10.2m) to secure Deulofeu’s release after two years on Merseyside.
Another stipulation in the deal was that the one-time Spain international could not be sold for 12 months after he was repurchased by his former club.
“There are certain things in the deal,” Martinez said at the time.
“They can’t take him back in the winter so they can’t take him back in January.
“It can only be at the end of the season. It is €9m for the first year and €12m in the second year.
“If they take him back they can’t sell him for a season, so he has to stay in the first-team squad for a season.
“At the end of that if they decide to sell him we have got first rights of getting him back or we have got a big percentage of that deal.”
