Everton FC face £20M buy-out cost for waterfront stadium

Everton’s dream of a waterfront stadium is set to cost an extra £20 million.

A site in the North Liverpool Docks has been mooted as a potential location for the Blues’ new home but have to buy out the land from The Peel Group.

The private developers are the current holders of the 15-hectare site as part of plans for Liverpool Waters, a mixed-use quarter in the city centre.

Farhad Moshiri, Everton’s new majority shareholder, is committed to building a new stadium and is open to the club moving to North Docks.

However an alternative site in Stonebridge Cross, owned by Liverpool City Council, also remains under consideration from the Blues’ hierarchy.

Short-term plans to renovate Goodison Park are currently underway.
