Joe Anderson confident on Everton FC stadium after Farhad Moshiri talks

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson has met with Everton chiefs in London to discuss the club’s plans for a new stadium.

Anderson posted an image on Twitter of himself in discussion with the Blues’ new majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright.

“Great meeting with Farhad,” he wrote.

“Still believe a new stadium in 2 yrs is achievable.”

Everton are exploring the fourth potential avenue for a stadium following the failure to build on sites at the Kings Dock, Kirkby and Walton Hall Park.

Two sites are currently being assessed, one in the north Liverpool docks and another in Stonebridge Cross but the waterfront location remains the preference.

The plans for Walton Hall Park were scrapped in May for the site a short distance from the club’s current Goodison Park home.

Mayor Anderson revealed at the time that he envisaged Everton taking up residence at a new stadium by 2019 at the latest.

He said: “I’m confident the new stadium will be up and running in three years time.

“I think there is a real acceptance by them and I’m pretty confident that within three years there will be a new stadium for Everton Football Club in Liverpool.”
