Mikel Arteta has called on the Premier League to move Everton’s game with Arsenal.
The current Premier League leaders will visit Arteta’s one-time employers in what was supposed to be their final pre-Christmas fixture on Sunday, December 21.
But the Gunners’ Carabao Cup quarter-final clash Crystal Palace has been pushed back to December 23 as the EFL sought to ease both clubs’ fixture congestion.
The move came after Palace faced the prospect of playing four games in eight days if the last eight encounter had remained in its original December 16 date.
But Arteta has now called on top flight chiefs to also consider switching his side’s trip to Hill Dickinson Stadium due to a two-day turnaround between their games.
He said: “Hopefully they will move our Premier League match, because to play two days later doesn’t make any sense.
“So now we decide the date (for the Carabao Cup match) I am sure they will change the Premier League (match) as well.
“I’ll leave that to the club. I think we’re very clear what was the best thing, the more logical day to play, they bring a different date.”
