Manchester United are reportedly in talks with ex-Everton director of football Steve Walsh.
Walsh left his post at Goodison Park last summer following the arrival of Marcel Brands but could now be set for a surprise return to the Premier League.
The former talent spotter had joined the Blues in 2016 from then Premier League champions Leicester City, where he was also part of the club’s coaching staff.
He was credited with identifying the likes of N’Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy as they steered the Foxes to an improbable title victory.
But Walsh endured mixed fortunes at Everton, with only a handful of players signed under his watch going on to become established first-team players.
Chief among them were Idrissa Gueye, Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane.
However that poor success rate is said to have failed to deter United as they bid to improve their own poor transfer strategy during the summer months.
According to the Daily Mail, Walsh is highly regarded within Old Trafford and is in the running for a similar role with the 20-time English champions.
Former United midfielder Darren Fletcher has also been earmarked to help oversee recruitment alongside the potentially incoming 54-year-old.
Brands, Walsh’s successor at Everton, has enjoyed a far more productive rate in sourcing players with Richarlison and Bernard among his biggest successes.
