Wycombe 0 Tranmere 1: Barnes delight as Rovers end losing streak

John Barnes was breathing a huge sigh of relief last night after Tranmere recorded their first win in eight games.

A first-half strike by Ian Thomas-Moor was enough to give the Super Whites all three points away to Wycombe Wanderers following a 1-1 draw with Colchester United last weekend and Liverpool legend Barnes believes his side deserved the result last night.

He said: “The victory was very pleasing, but the clean sheet was just as pleasing. We are defending much better as a unit.

“Once again, it was a very physical battle. Wycombe like Colchester, have some big players.

“They asked us lots of questions but defensively we stood up to it.

“It was similar to the Colchester game, in that we played well in the first half, and moved the ball well.

“They put us under more pressure in the second half and I still felt we could have passed the ball better, to alleviate some of that pressure.

“We got a little bit nervy close to the end, and there were one or two near things.

“We had some luck but I think we earned it.”
