Tranmere Rovers have signed goalkeeper Jason Mooney following a successful trial with the club.

The shotstopper agreed a one-year deal with the Prenton Park outfit after impressing during pre-season games against Cammell Lairds and Heswall.

Mooney has spent much of his career playing in his native Northen Island, with spells at Ards, Bangor, Ards Rangers and Comber Rec. He later moved to England to join Wycombe Wanderers.

The 23-year-old was loaned out to Oxford City throughout the 2011/12 season, and was named as the club's player of the year during a Evo-Stik Southern League campaign that saw them win promotion to the Blue Square North.

Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore said: “I’ve been really pleased with Jason in pre-season.

“He’s vocal, dominates his area, is a good shot stopper and he’s an imposing figure at six foot nine.

“He’ll provide good back up for Owain Fon Williams and I’m happy he’s agreed to join us.”

Tranmere's preparations for the new season continue with an away trip to Vauxhall Motors this evening.
