Tranmere Rovers sign Liam Palmer on loan

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Liam Palmer has joined Tranmere Rovers on loan until January.

The Scotland under-21 international confirmed the move over Twitter, saying that he hopes to return to Hillsborough a "better" player.

He wrote: "Well looks as though the cats out the bag. Thanks for all the messages. It will be good for me to hopefully get a good run of games and get some vital experience at a good level. Then look to come back a better player.

"A big thankyou too all the ‪Sheffield Wednesday fans. Been nothing but brilliant to me since I broke into the first team."

Palmer struggled to hold down a first-team place towards the latter stages of last season, and was likely to find opportunities limited in the new campaign with the Owls having won promotion to the Championship.

Rovers boss Ronnie Moore has been busy in the transfer market this summer despite having precious little funding to strengthen his squad.

Ben Burgess, Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, Danny Harrison, Paul Black and Everton loanee James Wallace have all been recruited ahead of the forthcoming League One campaign.

Tranmere and Sheffield Wednesday are expected to officially confirm Palmer's loan this week.
